Hawaii nonprofits should have registered by March 1

The Attorney General's Office reminds charities that solicit funds from the public that they must register with the Attorney General's office under Act 174, unless they are exempt from the registration requirement.  The registration deadline is March 1.

A summary of the charitable solicitation law and a FAQ, with answers to frequently asked questions, including information on which charities are required to register is available at http://hawaii.gov/ag/charities/FAQ.doc.

The Attorney General is using an online registration system.  Click here to go to the registration web site.  Charities must first obtain a logon and password from the registration system before completing the registration form.

There is an online tutorial on the registration site and the Attorney General encourages all charities to download and print the tutorial as it will guide them through the process. There are also FAQ's about the registration law on the Attorney General's website, www.hawaii.gov/ag/charities
